Dec. 19--Marshall "Jim" Lightfoot was a Southwest Side railroad man who trained English springer spaniels to compete in field trials, winning two national championships and admission into his sport's Hall of Fame.
Mr. Lightfoot, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after struggling with respiratory problems, said his wife, Beverly.
Mr. Lightfoot bought his first springer spaniel, named "Stormy" because it was a rainy day when he picked up the dog, in the mid-1960s and was soon deeply involved in the world of competitive field trials, his wife said.
