Dec. 19--Some Cannery Row shopkeepers say hotel construction along one block may be dragging down their bottom lines during an already slow time for visitors.
But other business people say their sales are running about the same as other years and any hassles they may encounter as cranes and Mack trucks work nearby are worth the business they hope to gain once the project is completed.
After all, the site where the Cannery Row Hotel is being built in Monterey has been an empty lot -- and an eyesore to some -- for more than 20 years.
