Article: PARK PLAN ELATES SOUTH BETHLEHEM TOWN TO BUY 10-ACRE TRACT FOR RECREATIONAL AREA.(Local)

Byline: Barbara Hayden Staff writer

"The whole community is grateful, happy. We have waited a long time for this."

That's how Lisle Snyder, the "honorary mayor" of the hamlet of South Bethlehem, feels about the recent Town Board action to purchase 10 acres of land for that area's first town park.

Snyder holds no elected office but has carried the informal title of mayor since the 1950s when then- Supervisor John Oliver dubbed him mayor for his hard work in getting out the vote. Snyder believes that the park will fill a big need for the young people in the area who want to use the ballfields or have a picnic.
