Elected office, acknowledges state Sen. Serphin Maltese, has changed him "slightly."
Starting in 1971, he was a top official of the state Conservative Party, but quit last year with his election to the state Senate.
Now the party calls Maltese's first voting record as a lawmaker farfrom ideal.
On 15 key votes used to rate the state lawmakers, Maltese, elected from Queens, dissented from the party position four times, according to the Conservatives' annual ratings published Wednesday.
"I guess it has its humorous side," Maltese said. "I know my good colleagues are going to break my chops."
