Drug traffickers today bombed the headquarters of two political parties and set fire to two politicians' homes in Medellin, declaring war on the government in retaliation for a crackdown on the narcotics trade.
Police said one person was killed in the bombing of the Liberal Party offices in Medellin, an industrial city that serves as a base for the world's biggest cocaine cartel.
Also bombed was the Conservative Party headquarters, and the weekend retreats of two prominent politicians, former finance minister Edgard Gutierrez of the Liberal Party and Conservative Sen. Ignacio Velez Escobar, police said.
