If Bruch hadn't written such beguiling violin concertos, would he be known now as a seductive symphonist? Probably. As it is, his concertos keep his name alive in concert halls while the symphonies languish. Kurt Masur and his orchestra come to the rescue with the right German sound and the native inflection for these late romantic pieces.
