Mikhail S. Gorbachev today said the Berlin Wall is "no great problem" in East-West relations, and he applauded NATO's new willingness to negotiate cuts in short-range missiles.
At a news conference as he wrapped up a four-day state visit, the Soviet leader praised the results of his talks with West German leaders as having opened a new path toward improved ties among European nations.
He hailed a declaration on European goals that he signed with Chancellor Helmut Kohl on Tuesday as the visit's most important accomplishment, a step toward "dissolving the confrontational nature of our relations."
