Dec. 19--The 42 Democratic House members met in a closed-door session to have an "open and frank discussion" about the leadership battle.
"We are a family," Lujan told reporters after the meeting, using a word Martinez later would repeat. "Every member of the caucus has a voice. We're coming out happy." Martinez claimed he wasn't disappointed by the vote. "Thewhole process worked," he said, adding he was "humbled" when he was re-elected majority leader. Lujan -- who as speaker has the power to appoint committee chairmen and members -- said there would be no political retaliation against those who supported Martinez.
