About to break loose is the way one of its top promoters describes Montgomery County, an area that has had more than its share of unemployment, depression and poverty.
Steve Smeltzer, executive vice president of the Montgomery County Economic Development Corp., pointed to an area north of Amsterdam - about to blossom with restaurants and shops over the next two years - as a good indication of boom times ahead.
Smeltzer said he is seeing a great deal of development interest in the Fonda and Fultonville areas of Montgomery County because of their proximity to Exits 27 and 28 of the Thruway.
