Bill Rathbun's maple syrup pails are practically empty this year.

His North Granville farm in Washington County has produced 140 gallons of maple syrup - a measly output compared with other seasons. Last year at this time, Rathbun already had 1,200 gallons.

Butch Putnam, a Cobleskill maple syrup farmer, has harvested only 400 gallons, compared with the 1,000 gallons for the same period last year.

And Irwin King of Knox said his eight gallons of syrup - compared with the 200 at this time last year - have given him the worst season since he started farming syrup in 1962. King has sold all eight ...
