Press releases usually get short shrift around here; more often than not they get scanned and tossed.
But this one stopped me short. It was the recipe for buttermilk cake that did it.
First of all, the recipe was developed by Jim Dodge, no slouch at fancy baking.
Dodge made a name for himself as pastry chef at the Stanford Court in San Francisco and later with the impressive cookbook, "The American Baker."
But even more compelling were the ingredients: Here was a low-fat, low-calorie, low-cholesterol cake.
