New rugs and a tap water chemical have some Colonie residents complaining their water smells like cat urine.

It's different, maybe even bizzare, but to the Latham Water District and its approximately 30 customers who are affected, it's a serious situation.

"It's pretty rotten to turn on the water and have a real bad odor," said Michael Burke of Loudonville, who had a new carpet installed in his house in November. "It's a very potent smell."
