New York's cross-border milk war with New Jersey took a surprising twist this week after Garden State agriculture officials partially opened their doors to a Brooklyn milk dealer that has been trying to enter the state's market for more than two years.
Officials in New York said the move to allow Beyer Farms to sell milk to about a dozen stores in northern New Jersey could be a first step to a relaxation of New Jersey's strict dairy regulations, which have frustrated out- of-state producers' efforts to compete in the market, a theory New Jersey regulators strongly rejected.
