James Young has written an important book about an important subject. It also is a subtle and demanding book, but its central thesis is quite straightforward.
Virtually all the knowledge we now have of the Holocaust, Young claims, depends on the written word: writings from the Holocaust, he says, depends on things written since the Holocaust which have that event as their subject. But these accounts take many different forms: diaries, memoirs, historical analyses, novels, dramas, poetry, philosophical studies.
It seems inevitable ...
