At Christian Century magazine, which deals with contemporary religious issues, the editors take a stab at a top 10 list every year, as do members of the Religion Newswriters Association, namely us, the religion writers on the nation's secular newspapers.
For starters, the two lists disagreed on the top story of 1990.
Christian Century cited as its No. 1 topic the sometimes violent religious conflicts around the globe, particularly the Hindus' war with Muslims in India and Bangladesh, Israeli- Palestinian fighting in Jerusalem and clashes of religious-nationalist passions across the Soviet Union.
