There are still more labor union members in New York City than anywhere else, but whether it is still a "union town" in the traditional sense is critical to the unions now striking the Daily News.

Despite a steady decline in the power of non-municipal labor unions over the past 30 years, the battle over the Daily News has provided evidence of labor's continuing clout:
