It's not quite the same as a month in Mexico, but a train ride to New York and a trip uptown to the Metropolitan Museum of Art offers an amazingly fine crash course in the art and culture of that often misunderstood neighbor.
The Met is hosting the monumental exhibition of Mexican art aptly titled "Mexico: Splendors of Thirty Centuries."
That's a large country and a lot of centuries for a mere two galleries on the second floor of the museum, but this still is an impressive collection. The 400 items represent some true highlights from the diverse culture of Mexico.
