The Marine Corps will honor one of its own here Sunday when George J. Sampson is decorated for bravery.
Sampson, 69, of Fort Hunter, Montgomery County, will receive the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" (for valor) for selfless acts under fire as a 23-year-old corporal during the battle for Saipan in the Central Pacific during World War II.
Local Marine Corps reservists of Alpha Company-Minus, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines will assemble in full battle gear outside their Albany training center on Washington Avenue at North Main Avenue for the 2:30 p.m. ceremony under the direction of Capt. Gilbert Desroches, the ...
