The Albany investment firm of McGinn-Smith & Co. Inc. said late Thursday that it would be making a major announcement at a news conference set for this morning.
Though there has been considerable speculation that the firm might be close to an announcement about its long-standing pursuit of Home & City Savings Bank of Albany, none of the principals would confirm whether there have been serious discussions recently.
A spokeswoman for McGinn-Smith declined to discuss the topic of the news briefing.
The firm's principals assembled investors more than a year ago to pursue a takeover.
