Dec. 20--Former Florida International University professor Carlos Alvarez came to regret collaborating with Cuban intelligence agents. The secret meetings, code names and encrypted messages about prominent Cuban exiles -- all of which Alvarez has admitted -- began as an attempt to foster dialogue between Cuban-Americans and Cubans on the island.
