Dec. 20--A deadly outbreak of equine herpes virus migrated outside of Wellington for the first time on Tuesday, with a confirmed case in Ocala and a horse exhibiting some symptoms in Jupiter Farms. The sick racehorse from Ocala had contact with as many as 20 other horses over five days at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens. The outbreak has rocked South Florida's equestrian community, which is just now gearing up for the start of its high season, forced strict safety precautions to control its spread, and threatened Wellington's economy.
