MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. _ NAACP director executive director Benjamin Chavis Jr. led nearly 2,000 Confederate battle flag opponents into an encampment of red-and-blue rebel banners Saturday as South Carolina's flag battle washed over the streets of Myrtle Beach.
Hostile onlookers waved the Southern standard in the faces of protesters, who stomped through the city demanding that the ``red rag'' be ripped from atop the S.C. Capitol dome Statehouse in Columbia.
They were answered later by more than 1,000 flag supporters, who marched through the rain shouting, ``Never take it down.''
The dual marches made for a day of sound and fury, but what they signified was left unclear. ...
