Seasoned visitors to Leonardo exhibitions around the world will be familiar with the models of flying machines, armoured cars and so on that currently occupy the entrance halls of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The exhibition that they herald, 'Leonardo da Vinci: Experience, Experiment and Design', is more novel: an exploration of 'how Leonardo thought on paper'.
