John C. Chen
John C. Chen, a math professor at Temple University for more than 30 years and director of advanced mathematics programs for Philadelphia high schools, passed away on September 21, 2005. Born in Nanjing, China, Chen was the son of the minister of education in Shanghai prior to the Communist takeover in 1949. After immigrating to the United States in 1958, he enrolled at Carroll College in Helena, Mont. and received a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1962, subsequently earning his doctorate from Temple University in 1975. He taught math at Temple until shortly before his death.
