Vacations that Americans will take this summer no doubt are great journeys for them. Families travel a network of highways to such destinations as the Grand Canyon, Walt Disney World, the Black Hills and the Wisconsin Dells. Some might follow the Great River Road along the Mississippi.
For vacationers, these trips are adventures of exploration and discovery, revealing new insights and vistas of the U.S.
But "great journeys" is a relative expression.
A new book, "Great Journeys" (Touchstone Books, $19.95), transcends the highways and byways that most of us travel. Its subtitle tells how: ...
