The American Red Cross failed to disclose to federal regulators 230 reports of cases in the Washington region in which people may have contracted AIDS through blood transfusions, according to an internal government document.
Moreover, a Food and Drug Administration inspection of Red Cross' national headquarters in Washington in May found that "there are no procedures for reviewing and tracking transfusion-associated AIDS cases by national (headquarters) to assure all regions are submitting the initial reports and follow-up reports are complete."
