New research shows that the effects of lead poisoning are more pervasive and longer lasting in children than previously believed and even contribute to the high school dropout rate, according to federal health experts.

Dr. Sue Binder of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control said the Advisory Committee on Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention will be briefed today

and Tuesday on the new findings and "tell us what they think we should do."
