Unchallengeable in the lead and glowing in his yellow jersey, Greg LeMond cruised into Paris on Sunday as the winner of the Tour de France for the second successive year.
When the 156-man field swept through the last of eight laps on the Champs-Elysees and passed the finish line, LeMond jerked his arms upward in a sign of victory.
That gesture is usually left to the daily stage winner, but the American's jubilance was understandable.
