Dec. 20--The end of the year is filled with holiday parties, friends, family and in some Inland area workplaces -- empty desks.

Unscheduled absences are on the rise nationally, especially as the decorations go up around the office, according to experts.

"You do tend to see a higher increase in absenteeism around the holidays," said Jennifer Sullivan, a spokeswoman for CareerBuilder.com, which conducts an annual survey of employee absenteeism.
