Dr. Ed Auen shouldered his Beretta 687 Sporting Clays shotgun across the leather padding of an Orvis Sporting Clays vest, adjusted a pair of shooter's polarizing sunglasses against the mid-morning brightness and grabbed a canvas bag, as heavy as a boat anchor, bulging with 12- gauge shotgun shells.
With all their official sporting clays gear, Auen, an internal medicine resident at Albany Medical Center, and Tom King, owner of a trailer manufacturing firm in Glens Falls, looked like a walking advertisement for Orvis - the venerable, upscale outfitter located 25 minutes down the road in Manchester.
