Fetal alcohol syndrome is a lifelong affliction that is affecting some adults who have never been diagnosed, according to ongoing studies.
The condition occurs when a pregnant woman drinks. She may give birth to a baby who meets the classic profile of a child with fetal alcohol syndrome: shorter and thinner than peers and may have facial, dental, bone, heart or other physical abnormalities. A small head, tremors, poor muscle tone, poor coordination and hyperactivity are characteristic of the condition.
