Thelma Pressman has been been preaching against the use of PVC plastic wraps in microwave cooking since 1983 when she wrote her first book, "The Art of Microwave Cooking."
The cookbook author and microwave consultant says she made up her mind after she designed foods to be used in a commissary. The foods were cooked in big ovens, and then placed in microwaveable plates and frozen to be reheated later.
One day her husband complained that the commissary's cornbread tasted like car oil. When she investigated, she found that the cooks had covered the cornbread with PVC plastic wrap while it was still hot. ...
