Albany public school students fared worse on standardized tests than their counterparts in most comparable cities, according to state Education Department data.

Even when Albany is compared with much larger cities, scores of Albany students average no better than second in most cases.

The one relatively bright spot for the Albany schools concerned the percentage of students graduating with Regents diplomas.
