Premier Li Peng opened China's annual legislative session today by proclaiming that China will never yield to attempts to undermine its socialist system and Communist rule.
In a speech of more than two hours to the nearly 3,000 deputies of the National People's Congress, Li also said the state would exert more control over the economy but ease austerity measures that have stalled economic growth.
Li's state of the nation address sets the tone of the 15-day meeting, which is expected to show unwavering support for the party's hard-line political and economic policies.
