It is being trumpeted as the biggest rally in the history of the planet.
On Earth Day 1990 - Sunday, April 22 - as many as 100 million people in more than 120 countries are expected to participate in rallies, ecological fairs, tree plantings and other activities to voice the loud message that mankind must learn to live in a more environmentally conscious way.
Twenty years ago, an estimated 20 million Americans celebrated the first Earth Day. They donned gas masks and buried cars in what became, in large measure, a launching pad for a mainstream environmentalist movement.
