Dec. 21--Forney schools Superintendent Mike Smith, who oversaw a more than doubling in the number of students and schools over the last five years, is the lone finalist to be the next schools chief in New Braunfels.
The school board in New Braunfels, a district of about 7,000 students between Austin and San Antonio, chose Mr. Smith at its meeting Monday night. Under state law, there is a 21-day period before the board can formally offer Mr. Smith a contract. According to a news release from the New Braunfels district, the school board there chose Mr. Smith, 48, from among 51 applicants and seven interviewed candidates. Mr. Smith, ...
