People with high blood levels of dietary fats and whose bloodstream is slow to dispose of those fats have an increased risk of heart disease, doctors say.
Until now, the fats, a class of substances called triglycerides, had been thought to have little relation to heart disease risk unless they were far above normal, said Dr. Antonio Gotto of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Studies presented before the opening of the American Heart Association's annual meeting Sunday
suggest that even mildly elevated triglyceride levels may be an important indicator of elevated heart disease risk, Gotto said. The ...
