Albany County Democratic Chairman Harold Joyce and the top elected leaders seeking to oust him both received support Tuesday, but the outcome of their fight is far from certain. U.S. Rep. Michael McNulty, state Sen. Howard Nolan and Mayor Thomas M. Whalen III asked Joyce to step down as party chairman during a meeting in Whalen's office Monday, according to party insiders.
Joyce said he doesn't plan to step down, but didn't want to discuss publicly what he called an internal party matter. That attitude has frustrated some of his supporters, who want him to actively take on the forces opposing him.
