It's not just furry or feathered beasts that get restored to the wilds by state wildlife workers.
The state has a fondness for the slithering variety, also. On Tuesday, state Environmental Conservation Commissioner Thomas Jorling said workers had released five venomous rattlesnakes in a remote area of Orange County.
The rattlesnake restoration joins other well-known state programs to restore eagles, lynx and other creatures to the woods.
The 3-foot-long timber rattlesnakes were confiscated last fall from a Long Island resident who had illegally captured them, Jorling said. The ...
