Back in the days before MTV, before compact disc players, stereos and phonographs, and even before the radio, people got music by playing it.
Among the rich, the instrument of choice was the piano. It originated in Florence, Italy, in the late 1690s. It arrived in the United States from London, and began surfacing in the homes of the elite before moving out into concert halls and saloons as well.
