GALA FOR THOROUGHBREDS: For a second year in a row, the Travers Celebration gala was decorated in black and cherry red, the stable colors of Ogden Phipps and his son Ogden Mills Phipps. Phipps Sr. owns the 1989 Travers winner, Easy Goer, and his son owns last year's winner, Rhythm.
Although the ball was in their honor, like last year, they chose not to attend. Instead, they were hosts of a party of their own at their residence on North Broadway in the Spa City.
