A nine-member committee will help design a new recreation center in South Troy, City Manager Steven G. Dworsky announced Thursday.

The $2 million facility is expected to be built on a five-acre piece of vacant land at the intersection of Canal and Fifth avenues.

"The city owns it now," Dworsky said. He noted that the land was used for a park but has been vacant the last five years.

Proposed at 20,000 square feet, the facility will likely include a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, weight room and library.
