For Jim Bakker, the former televangelist convicted of fraud resulting in one of history's most overbooked hotels, the penalty could be the equivalent of a college education, timewise at least.

He will be eligible for parole in four years.

The federal judge who resentenced Bakker last week removed the $500,000 fine earlier imposed and made no other provision for restitution. As a result, those victims who bought unavailable time-sharing - some in a hotel that was never finished - have just completed their own four-year education.
