New York's top insurance regulators contend that insurance companies operating in the state are healthy, despite criticism by some analysts that a failure, similar to the savings and loan fiasco, looms in the future for the insurance industry.
An examination of the financial reports of the 27 insurance companies based in the Capital District and surrounding counties shows most companies made money last year.
The reports were filed with the state Insurance Department, which monitors all insurance companies licensed to do business in the state.
