Local officials called on the Cuomo administration Thursday to stop sending New York's worst inmates to Southport Correctional Facility, site of a 26- hour hostage standoff this week.
Chemung County's executive and the mayor of nearby Elmira both insisted Southport should be used as a conventional prison and not to house the prison system's least manageable convicts.
Meanwhile Thursday, investigators interrogated Southport inmates, searched the facility for weapons and reviewed videotapes for clues as to how the riot unfolded Tuesday in a recreation yard.
