A fugitive Greek banker accused of embezzling $210 million in a scandal that toppled former Premier Andreas Papandreou was en route to his homeland Friday.

The extradition of 36-year-old Giorgos Koskotas, former chairman of the Bank of Crete, began with U.S. marshals taking him from the Middleton House of Correction to Logan Airport in Boston, where he was flown to New York. There, he was handed over to Greek authorities for a later flight to Greece.

Koskotas is charged with embezzling millions from the bank - allegedly with the knowledge of Papandreou, then the premier.
