Choichiro Yatani sees himself as a conscript in one of the last battles of the Cold War.
Yatani, 45, a psychology professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, is one of 264,649 people added in the past decade to a secret U.S. government blacklist. Ninety-six percent of those names were tacked onto the list for ideological reasons.
Some of those on the list are suspected terrorists or committed communists, but many others are people whom the government believes might have subversive ideas. In Yatani's case, he was once thrown in jail because the government was worried about his thoughts.
