The cholesterol levels of people who lived in Minneapolis- St. Paul dropped significantly during the early 1980s, and a similar fall probably occurred nationwide, according to a study.

The researchers found that during the first half of the decade, men's blood cholesterol levels fell an average of 5 points to 200, while women's levels dropped 6 points to 195.

"The decline in cholesterol occurred not only at the upper levels of cholesterol but across the entire distribution," said Dr. Gregory L. Burke, who directed the study.
