Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said Sunday that he opposes any Western involvement in postwar security arrangements in the Persian Gulf.
"Arab security will only be Arab, and it will have all the protection needed for this part of the world," Mubarak said in a nationally broadcast address. He did not elaborate.
In the past, the Egyptian president has said that he preferred any new security arrangement to be Arab, and that Western participation could be under the United Nations flag.
