Wes Neary remembers, as a sophomore at Niskayuna High, hearing about former Burnt Hills runnning great Miles Irish.
"I used to joke that maybe one of these days I'd break a Miles Irish record," Neary said.
Sunday, Neary did break a record held by Irish, a former national high school record-holder for 600 and 1,000 meters and considered the best middle distance runner ever to come out of SectionII. And in a memorable one-man show, he led Niskayuna to the boys team title in the 13th annual Engineers Games, while disposing of his own reputation as a prospect for stardom.
